Tree Relations - A2 limited edition

Tree Relations explores the familial connections between many different tree species in the format of a tree diagram. Drawn out with five separate pens, this limited edition version of a drawing first exhibited at the Cooper Union in 2024 has been made with the assistance of a CNC pen plotter. Each copy is signed and numbered.

A primary motivation for the drawing and its underlying research has been to better understand the possible correspondences between the properties of various wood types and the evolutionary relationship of the trees they derive from. Some of our own observations have been drawn in, with many more left to be discovered on close reading.

The work is informed by: experiences of wood and trees, countless conversations, books and magazines, and online research. In particular, the level of detail presented owes enormous thanks to Lifemap (https://lifemap.univ-lyon1.fr/explore.html).

Using Trees Studio continues this work as an active research project.
